James (Jim) R. Halvatzis focuses his practice on complex oil and gas title examination and transactions. He advises exploration and production companies on the rendering of Drilling, Division Order, and Acquisition Title Opinions covering fee, state, and federal lands. Prior to joining the firm, Jim spent nearly two decades in executive and senior land roles for private equity-backed and independent E&P operators. This extensive, hands-on operational background allows him to look at title records through the lens of an operator, delivering precise, practical legal requirements that protect client investments while keeping drilling programs on schedule.
Jim earned his J.D. from the University of Houston Law Center and his B.A. from the University of Texas. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, a Certified Professional Landman (CPL), and an active member of the American Association of Professional Landmen and the Denver Association of Petroleum Landmen, where he previously served as Treasurer. Outside of the office, Jim is an active member of the Greek Orthodox Church. He enjoys a variety of team and outdoor sports, including basketball, mountain biking, skiing, and golf, and traveling internationally—especially to Peru, his wife’s home country. Closer to home, he and his wife stay busy keeping up with their two daughters and their active sports schedules.
